We're developing several reference implementations to demonstrate how revealing common connections across social networks can help build trust among people who've never met.
Recommendations
See our recommendations widget in action
Consumer reviews are handy - to a point. How much trust can you put in a review written by some anonymous grouch?
MashedIn offers a more trustworthy substitute. Recommendations come with social identity attached, so you can see how you're connected to that grouch through common friends or common interests.
Integrate recommendations into your website or directory by adding a MashedIn widget or connecting to our API.
Mobile
MashedIn can sort people by common friends, by common interests...or by common locations. This last feature was the inspiration for our MashedIn Mobile application.
Want to see how you're connected to the people nearby? Visit MashedIn Mobile with your iPhone or Android phone, add one or more social identities, and see a list of other people who've recently visited MashedIn (or tweeted from their phones) in your vicinity. At the top of the list you'll see the people you're connected to through common friends.
Conferences
MashedIn technology can be used to create social smartphone games for conferences and special events.
Here's a mobile game we created for Google I/O 2010. The idea is to see who's the most connected person at the conference. The game encourages interaction by awarding points for connecting to strangers. Filtering by time and proximity, MashedIn narrowed participation to people using their smartphones during these three days in the vicinity of San Francisco's Moscone Center.
This game could easily be combined with something like the MashedIn Mobile app (see above) to create a highly viral conference communication and networking tool.
